Periodontal treatment methods depend upon the type and severity of the disease. At your initial examination, we will evaluate the extent of your periodontal disease and recommend the appropriate treatment. Periodontal disease progresses as the sulcus or space between the tooth and gums gets bacteria, plaque, and tartar inside resulting in irritation to the surrounding tissues. If these irritants remain in the pocket space, damage to the gums and supporting bone occurs. If the disease is caught in its early stages of gingivitis, regular professional cleanings will be recommended and oral hygiene instructions will be discussed. If the disease has progressed to more advanced stages, a deep cleaning or scaling and root planning will be recommended
