A composite filling is a tooth-colored material practically invisible to the untrained eye used to restore decayed teeth. Composites are also used to replace old and worn silver amalgams or for cosmetic improvements of the smile by changing the color of the teeth or reshaping disfigured teeth. Composite resin is the restorative material of choice at our office. These mercury-free fillings are a mixture of glass or quartz filler in a resin medium. Composites are bonded or adhesively placed in a cavity. This allows us to be conservative in our preparation by removing less tooth structure.
